CLOTHING CARE - A GUIDE
TATUUM clothes are designed to be worn for years. Below, we share best practices related to the care of the materials they are made from.
How do you care of woollen clothes?
Woollen clothes will serve you a long time if you care of them properly. It is crucial to read the instructions on the label, which give care instructions for a particular type of wool. A basic rule of thumb for washing wool is to check that the garment can be washed in a washing machine. If not, do it by hand or take it to a dry-cleaner. Choose detergents intended for washing this product. During machine washing you can damage the delicate fibres. When you clean clothes in the washing machine, if the label says so, set the spin speed to 400 for delicate fabrics — this will help to save their shape.
TIP: After hand washing your wool, do not wring it out or wrinkle it. It is best to lay the clothes out on a towel so it absorbs most of the moisture.
How do you take care of denim clothes?
Wash your denim clothes at a maximum of 30°C. Remember, to always check the temperature on the label. Empty the pockets, clip on buttons and zip the clothes to avoid damage and deformation during washing. Turn them to the left side to protect their colour. Be sure to separate your denim garments from your other clothes to make sure the colours don't mix and the clothes retain their colour. If you have the option, use a programme dedicated to washing denim.
Tip: Do not iron or sun dry your denim. This will help to maintain the colour of the clothes.
How do you take care of cotton clothes?
Cotton clothes are best washed at a maximum of 40°C, both white and coloured. Always separate light-coloured clothes from dark-coloured ones to save the colours and avoid staining. If your clothes have patches, embellishments or zircons, it is a good idea to turn them to the left side or wash them by hand. When you use the washing machine, set the spin speed to 400 for sensitive garments — this will help save their shape.
Tip: How to fix the colour of cotton clothes? Add table salt when rinsing.
How to care for silk clothes?
Silk garments are best washed by hand in cool water, using only sensitive detergents. When washing, move the garment slowly but do not knead or twist. Wet silk is very gentle and can be damaged. After washing, lay the silk clothes on a towel (do not wring!). When most of the water has soaked into the towel, do the rest of the drying by laying the garment flatly on the towel.
Tip: Iron silk garments on the left side and best through a cotton fabric.
How to care for cashmere garments?
Cashmere clothes have a low susceptibility to staining and absorbing odours, allowing for less frequent washing. Importantly, cashmere garments should be washed by hand. Such clothes should be dried flatly on a towel to avoid deformation.
Tip: To ensure cashmere garments do not become meshed, it is a good idea to brush them with a specially dedicated comb.
How to take care for linen clothes?
Linen clothes are best washed at low temperatures — a maximum of 30°C, using gentle detergents that will not weaken the fabric. Set the spin speed of your washing machine to a maximum of 400. Instead of fabric softener, pour in half a glass of vinegar. The unpleasant smell will disappear during the rinsing process and your linen clothes will be soft without damage to the environment.
After taking your clothes out of the washing machine, let them dry on a standing or hangers dryer. You can use also the tumble dryer. You can iron your linen clothes even if they are still slightly damp — this will improve the process.
TIP: To quickly smooth linen clothes, hang them in the bathroom during a warm shower — the steam will help get rid of creases.
